RESEARCH INTERESTS: Dr. Cendan's current research interest is in the use of virtual reality technologies for the surgical education of medical students and residents. He is interested in enhancing the understanding of the mechanisms by which students and residents learn the practice of surgery and in particular, how the evolving field of virtual surgery will facilitate that endeavor. Dr. Cendan has been working closely with Mr. Sergei Kurenov, an expert in simulation who also works for the Department of Surgery, as well as with Drs. Jorg Peters and Ben Lok of the Department of Computer Science Engineering. Together this research group has received an NIH-R21 grant for the development of a novel surgical simulation recording and teaching device, and has developed an R-03 grant for the evaluation of a human patient simulator to be used for student education. Dr. Cendan's clinical interests are in minimally invasive and breast surgery. A brief listing of publications are listed below:
