Opportunities for Industrial Collaborations

The Laboratory for Inflammation Biology and Surgical Science provides research assistance to the pharmaceutical industry performing strategic preclinical investigations, as well as Phase I, II, and III clinical trials.

Preclinical drug development includes evaluation in cell culture systems (including murine RAW 263.4 and U937 macrophage cell lines), human whole blood ex vivo stimulation, and murine and primate models of sepsis syndromes, including endotoxemic shock, generalized peritonitis, thermal injury, hemorrhagic shock and ischemia/reperfusion injury. Primate models (Papio and Macacca sp.) of bactermic shock and ischemia/reperfusion injury are also available.

The laboratory also provides the pharmaceutical industry with analytical assistance in FDA-approved clinical trials. Sample storage and analysis of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1b, TNFa, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12p70, IL-18), anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-10), cytokine antagonists (p55, p75, IL-1ra, sIL-1RII), sE-selectin, procalcitonin, protein C have been performed. In collaboration with the Diagnostic Laboratories of Shands Hospital, additional clinical analyses can be performed on a research basis.

The laboratory has worked extensively with the pharmaceutical industry in the past, and can meet their stringent quality control and quality assurance demands. Data security, data management and electronic data transfer can be adapted to meet the individual needs of the program.
