RESEARCH INTERESTS:

Although hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignancies worldwide, only 10-20% of cases are curable by either resection or transplantation. Understanding the cellular mechanisms of HCC proliferation will provide novel methods to interrupt the growth of these otherwise incurable cancers.
Proliferation of HCC involves partially characterized intracellular signals that regulate cell cycle progression. Although some members of the Tumor Necrosis Factor Related (TNFR) superfamily are involved other closely related members have not been examined. The global purpose of this project is to examine newer members of the TNFR superfamily involved in HCC and their downstream signals. Our ultimate goal is to assess the potential therapeutic benefits of exploiting these early events in TNFR superfamily- mediated signaling in HCC growth.
