The Laboratory of Inflammation Biology and Surgical Science occupies approximately 2,300 square feet of laboratory space in Shands Hospital, J. Hillis Miller Health Science Center at the University of Florida. Under the direction of Professor Lyle L. Moldawer, the laboratory conducts translational research in the fields of trauma biology, inflammation research, functional genomics and gene therapy. Established in 1993, the laboratory is an integral research and training component of the Department of Surgery, under the leadership of its Chairman, Professor William G. Cance. Funded by the Department of Surgery, the National Institutes of Health, and corporate sponsors, the laboratory seeks to translate current developments in molecular biology, gene therapy and functional genomics to the treatment of critically ill patients. This web site is intended to provide a brief overview of the laboratory's activities and past accomplishments. For those interested in research and training programs within the laboratory, please contact us directly.
